Our mission is to provide a home to animals that have been adandoned or abused, to show them what it is to live in a home where they are loved.

Max is the oldest dog, she is the boss and the very first dog we ever got. She wasn't a real rescue but it felt like it. We found her as a teensy puppy outside an agro-vet in a hamsters cage in Ciudad Colon. The kids were all over the little cage and asked to take her out and play with her a bit. I couldn't bear putting her back in there and decided to take her home for the night and start looking for a home for her. The little girl was covered in ticks and fleas and we washed her in a pot. She didn't like the dog food so we started feeding her tuna sandwiches which went down really well.

When Max was about a year old she got quite sick, she had less energy and wasn't eating. We took her to the vet, she was sent home with a couple antibiotics but within 24 hours she collapsed again. It turns out she had been suffering all of her life from chronic liver disease. Max had a long period of treatment and has a strict no fat diet which she doesn't stick to if there is food on the table that is not being watched closely enough.

What the volunteers say:

The volunteers have spent a lot of time with the dogs, they have learnt their quirks and have grown to love each of them.

Even though Max is small, she is the boss of all the other dogs. She is one of the three first dogs at the wet nose rescue center and she is the only dog which is allowed to lay on the table. She can get very angry if you try to carry her or when she gets bothered by other dogs. But if you once make friends she really loves you! She will jump on the couch and on your legs to cuddle. All in all she is a very beautiful little Diva and your best friend as well!
